MAY 2012 NEWS!

Boo and Sysco Off The Chain!

Boo and Sysco represent the 26th and 27th  Bristol dog to be released from their permanent restraints by Chainfree Bristol Volunteers.

Boo is an extremely active, young, black lab -pit  mix who has lived most of his 5 1/2 months chained. Boo’s chain would often become tangled with the chain of his yard mate, Sysco, a husky chow. With the restraints tangled and intertwined, both dogs had limited movement often.

When we first met Sysco, a sweet old gentleman dog, he moved slowly, mostly sitting quietly in one spot.  When the new 35’ x 60’ fenced enclosure was completed by Chainfree Bristol Volunteers, Sysco explored all around the area, actually running short distances.

Special thanks to Chainfree Bristol Volunteers: Les, Jake, Shea, Eden, Liza, Doug and Anita.

New anti-chaining/tethering ordinances were passed recently in 2012: Lake County, FL; Arlington, TX; York Township and Mount Wolf in PA; and Davidson, NC among others. A ban against the full time, unattended chaining or tethering of dogs should be legislated in Bristol as well. Please contact your City Officials and express your concerns. Join CHAINFREE BRISTOL!

Chainfree Bristol is dedicated to banning the lifetime, unattended chaining or tethering of dogs. Our goals include education and ordinance development.  Building fences demonstrates an acceptable alternative to chaining or tethering a dog.

Here’s How You Can Help:                                1. Contribute time and work.  Volunteer to help build fences for folks who would let their dog off the chain if they had an appropriately fenced area in their yard. Materials and direction to be furnished by Chainfree Bristol.

2. Contribute money.   Chainfree Bristol is a non profit organization Chartered by the State of  TN and NOW HAS a 501-C-3 tax exempt status.

Please support us in this grassroots effort, by sending your tax deductible  contributions to Chainfree Bristol.   P. O. Box 681 Bristol, TN 37621 or go to chainfreebristol.org

100% of the funds you contribute will go towards fencing materials to release chained or tethered dogs. For more info contact:  Liza Conway at liza@chainfreebristol.org or 423-534-9755.
