CITY COUNCIL
VOTES ON NEW ORDINANCE!
This past week, the City Council for Bristol Tennessee passed on first reading, a new ordinance making it unlawful to chain or tether your dog from sunset to sunrise. We applaud the City Council for taking this step towards improving the lives of chained dogs in Bristol. The vote was 4 to 1 with Joel Staton being the ONLY “no” vote.
As ordinance supporter Debbie said in HER letter to Council Members…
I am writing you to strongly encourage you to support the proposed Tethering/Chaining Ordinance. It is a huge step toward the ethical treatment of dogs in our area. Sadly, many dogs are left chained for years with little or no human interaction. It is a miserable and cruel existence for them. Passing an ordinance such as the one proposed would greatly improve their quality of life and prevent future dogs from suffering the same cruel treatment. Thank you for your support and I hope Bristol will be a shining example for other cities.”
Chainfree Bristol could not say it any better. Thank you Debbie! Now… we need YOU to do the same! E-MAIL YOUR COUNCIL PERSON TODAY!
Attention CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS:
Thank you for having the courage to lead our City towards more humane animal care ordinances.
“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” Ghandi
“A righteous man has regard for the life of his beast.” Proverbs 12:10
“The question is not, can they reason?
Nor, can they talk?
But, can they suffer?”
Jeremy Bentham
PLEASE ATTEND!
The FINAL VOTE on the proposed ordinance will be on Dec 6th at 7pm, (the first Tues. in Dec.) at Slater Center in Bristol, TN. The council folks ARE GETTING push back on this... join us and show your support. Speaking before Council is not required but we do need a strong showing of concerned citizens. Support Council's courage to ...

CHAINFREE BRISTOL says…
PERMANENTLY CHAINED DOGS are BAD FOR OUR CITY!
1. Safety issue: danger of small children roaming into chained dog’s space.
2. Chained dogs are often more aggressive than normal. What happens should they ever break free from the chain??
3. Bad for our City image and ability to attract high paying employers.
4. Bad for property values. Try selling a house for a needy client with chained dogs on either side!
5. Bad for the dogs. Thought of as inhumane by a majority of the voting public!
And NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS!
Pudgie, Rufus and Buddy are now CHAIN FREE! After all three dogs were altered (with the help of the Abingdon Animal Defense League), Pudgie, Rufus and Buddy are enjoying a new enclosure provided by the Volunteers and Supporters of Chainfree Bristol!
These three happy pups are the 18th, 19th, and 20th dogs that the volunteers of Chainfree Bristol have freed from life on a perpetual tether. Thanks to Chainfree Bristol volunteers: Liza, Les, Eden, and Pete. And this month’s supporters: Bob, David, Debbie, Ron, Sandra, SW Services, Mike, State Street Sweets and Eats, and Realty Executives Bristol.
